HERE’S WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT BECOMING PSYCHIC I enjoyed reading Becoming Psychic. I found Stanley Krippner's review of psi experiments to be fascinating and I found the evidence for psychic phenomena to be convincing. — Ricky Hoyt, Glendale, California Kierulff writes in a popular style; Krippner offers keen and well-crafted scientific insights. . Becoming Psychic is an excellent book for skeptics and the curious, providing both personal accounts and a scientific assessment of telepathy, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, nonlocal/anomalous healing, precognition, synchronicity, and spiritual lessons associated with psi experience. —Mark A. Schroll, PhD, Editor, The Rhine On-Line: Institute for Consciousness Newsletter BECOMING PSYCHIC provides a lively dialogue between a clinical psychologist (Dr. Stephen Kierulff) who has had a number of psychic or “paranormal” experiences, and a parapsychologist (Dr. Stanley Krippner) who puts these reports into a scientific framework. The book gives the reader detailed instructions about how to become more psychic in five significant areas — mind-reading, remote viewing, moving matter with mind, distant healing of physical ills through mental intention, and seeing the future. — Authors’ summary This new book from two experts in the field of parapsychology informs, entertains and enlightens. Becoming Psychic combines fascinating anecdotes with erudition, resulting in a very satisfying reading experience. I thoroughly enjoyed it! — Eric Goldwyn, Franklin Lakes, New Jersey BECOMING PSYCHIC is essential reading, both for the beginner interested in developing latent abilities, and also for the adept eager to keep up with the latest scientific findings. Dr. Kierulff's chatty, user-friendly approach to developing psychic ability is the perfect complement to Dr. Krippner's lucid explanations of parapsychological research. Brimming with intriguing personal experiences and the latest scientific research, this readable and inspiring volume touches heart, mind and spirit. — Carolyn Godschild Miller, PhD, Clinical Psychologist, author of Creating Miracles, Santa Monica, California I am hooked! I am so thrilled that the book presents two aspects of learning about psi—the experiences themselves and the scientific background and research that Dr. Krippner presents. — Nicole Sayers, attorney, Arlington, Washington I enjoyed Becoming Psychic. The writing is engaging, fun and inventive. All the stories are really good. — Nancy Lamb, Los Angeles, California Becoming Psychic is a unique book that relates a clinical psychologist’s anomalous experiences to his purported spiritual growth. An experimental parapsychologist makes comments, some of them quite skeptical, about the reported phenomena. The back-and-forth dialectic makes for fascinating and informative reading. Readers can make up their own minds! — T. Eelkoma “Tome,” Oakland, California The anecdotes make for fascinating reading and the scientific responses are relayed in a reader-friendly manner. Readers who have had similar experiences can begin to understand their own glimpses of future events, remarkable recoveries from major or minor illnesses, or knowledge of what is happening to a loved one hundreds of miles away. — Borders Books I picked up this book thinking it was probably another New Age insult to my intelligence and was pleasantlly surprised to find that I was wrong. Simple but not simplistic, it has just the right amount of scholarly and anecdotal narrative to make the one believable and the other palatable. Usually books on topics like this are either silly or dry but this one kept my interest all the way to the end. It’s an easy read with clarity and depth and it gives you a lot to relate to whenever you catch yourself “becoming psychic.” — Margaret Williams, Los Angeles, California Becoming Psychic is beautifully written: a delightful read for those fascinated by the possibility that psi is real. .— Edward C. Field, Jr. (doctorate in theoretical physics) BECOMING PSYCHIC provides an intriguing and yummy look at the nature of psi. I love the writing style—it's so clear, accessible, warm, straightforward and intelligent. Steve’s teaching stories are marvelous and Stan’s chapters on psi research are a wonderful read. — Belleruth Naparstek, psychotherapist, author of Your Sixth Sense, Cleveland, Ohio I’ve just finished reading Becoming Psychic, which was quite a stimulating and enjoyable experience. I found the book to be extremely well-crafted, from concept to organization to writing style ... a masterful job of leading the reader, in a gentle and mind-opening way. I could see hints of Zen-mind plus master therapist behind the writing. I appreciated the book from the POV of a mystic & fellow psychic who values intellectual rigor. — Karen McChrystal, medium, psychologist and publisher, Santa Monica, California Dr. Kierulff, I just finished your book, Becoming Psychic. It helped me so much. If I was in L.A., I'd give you the biggest hug! I just came out as a psychic, and your book is the most valuable one I've read. Your life [story] is such a gem that you give to people. Bless you! Thank you so much. — phone message from Brett Butler, Georgia, U.S.A.

When Stephen Kierulff presented his social-psychological survey of voters’ attitudes about nuclear weapons at an American Psychological Association meeting, I was impressed by his work and invited him to join our Peace Psychology Research Group. He became a regular and active contributor to the group and began researching Armageddon theology and its relationship to attitudes about nuclear war. His research report was published in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, and he presented his findings at annual meetings of the International Society for Political Psychology and the Western Psychological Association as well as a UCLA lecture series I coordinated. Two of Dr. Kierulff's articles have been published in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology, of which I am Editor. He has served as a reviewer of manuscripts submitted to the Journal. I have also interacted with Dr. Kierulff at meetings of a Psychology Interest Group which met in my office, where he displayed excellent clinical judgement, as evidenced by his comments on case presentations. — Thomas Greening, Ph.D., Psychologist, former editor of the Journal of Humanistic Psychology Stephen
Kierulff is highly intelligent, creative, and, above all, he is an
innovator, a leader and an asset. Of my professors, Dr. Stephen Kierulff was notable in terms of representing some of the finest teaching I have encountered in more than two decades of schooling. Dr. Kierulff represented the ultimate in interest in his individual students. He went beyond teaching us as a group to asking us to participate in his applied social psychology teachings on an interactive basis. Students role-played many concepts, and, as a result, came to know the concepts, and each other, very well. There was much humanity in his classroom and a real respect for each of us. — Lorraine D. Giaimo, M.A., Counselor While I was Dean of the School of Human Behavior, in various clinical psychology courses he taught for us, Dr. Kierulff received very good evaluations from students. Dr. Kierulff is a creative thinker and researcher. He pursues ideas avidly and researches them thoroughly and with competence. He writes extremely well. His articles have been interesting, lucid, and scientifically sound.— Robert H. Lauer, PhD, Research Professor
Every issue that Stephen addresses [in
the concluding essay in Becoming Psychic — “R.
D. Laing and Caritas”] is
dear to me, as is his approach from beyond explanation. In Stephen's
understanding of these issues, he witnesses to the “uplifting
and supporting by standing under” genre of knowing, which I
highly prize. Stephen's knowing is in contrast to the standard, explanatory
brand. Far too often, we explain things in order to explain them away,
out of our awareness. Stephen is among those who are dedicated to
conserving our awareness of what is about us and of what we are about.
